APPOINTMENT OF A MEMBER TO THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMISSION AND TO THE SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
Body
SUMMARY
As established in the Claremont Municipal Code, the Architectural Commission works to enhance the quality of life in Claremont by guiding the design and redesign of physical elements and ensuring the harmonious composition and preservation of visual aspects of the City. One vacancy currently exists on the Commission.
The Sustainable City Plan adopted by the City Council in 2008, provides for the establishment of the Sustainability Committee whose members are appointed by the City Council to serve four-year terms. The Sustainability Committee updates the Sustainable City Plan and monitors progress in achieving the City’s sustainability goals. Two terms will be expiring on January 31, 2024.
During interviews conducted by the then City Council Ad Hoc Nominating Committee comprised of Councilmember Leano and Councilmember Reece late last year, Ken Zimmerman, who currently serves on the Planning Commission, expressed an interest in being transferred to the Architectural Commission.
Councilmembers Leano and Reece recommend the transfer of Ken Zimmerman to the Architectural Commission for a term to expire August 31, 2027, and the appointment of David Hines to serve on the Sustainability Committee for a term to commence February 1, 2024, and expire January 31, 2028.
If made, these appointments will create one vacancy on the Planning Commission and leave one vacant position to fill on the Sustainability Committee.
RECOMMENDATION
Recommended Action
The outgoing City Council Ad Hoc Nominating Committee recommends the City Council:
A. Transfer Ken Zimmerman’s Commission appointment from the Planning Commission to the Architectural Commission for a term to commence immediately, and expire August 31, 2027, thereby creating a vacancy on the Planning Commission; and
B. Appoint David Hines to the Sustainability Committee, for a term to commence February 1, 2024, and expire January 31, 2028.
