ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE HANDBOOK FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS IN THE CITY OF CLAREMONT

SUMMARY

In 2022, the City Council formed an Ad Hoc Committee to review commissioner appointments in the City of Claremont Elected and Appointed Officials’ Handbook. Led by Mayor Sal Medina and Councilmember Jennifer Stark, they proposed revisions to the Handbook, aiming to clarify the roles and expectations of elected officials, including Commissioners and Committee Members.

On March 12, 2024, the City Council adopted new revisions to the Handbook. Fundamental changes include the removal of the eight-year term limit for Commissioners and Committee Members, creating a formal Commission/Committee appointment process, a Commissioner’s certification training video for future applicants, and an acknowledgment form for all current and future appointed officials to sign. Additional changes can be viewed in the Agenda Report attached as Attachment A. To review the newly adopted Handbook, please refer to Attachment B. Staff have been tasked to provide this information to all Commissions and Committees to ensure all members are in receipt of the Handbook. Any future substantive changes to the Handbook will require additional approval by the City Council.
