ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE HANDBOOK FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS IN THE CITY OF CLAREMONT

Body

SUMMARY

In 2022, the City Council formed an Ad Hoc Committee to review the commissioner appointment process and the City of Claremont Elected and Appointed Officials’ Handbook. Led by Mayor Sal Medina and Councilmember Jennifer Stark, the committee proposed revisions to the Handbook, aiming to clarify the roles and expectations of elected officials, including Commissioners and Committee Members.

On March 12, 2024, the City Council adopted new revisions to the Handbook. Fundamental changes include the removal of the eight-year term limit for Commissioners and Committee Members, the creation of a formal Commission/Committee appointment process, a Commissioner’s certification training video for future applicants, and an acknowledgment form for all current and future appointed officials to sign. Any future substantive changes to the Handbook will require additional approval by the City Council. Staff have been tasked with providing this information to all Commissions and Committees to ensure all members are in receipt of the Handbook. Therefore, the newly adopted Handbook is attached. The appendices to the Handbook remain unchanged, and may be found on the City website. (Under the “Government” tab on the home page, select “Elected and Appointed Officials’ Handbook.”)
